Ben Aipa, Mike Casey and Nick checking out Nick's 7'6" Backyards shooter.  Shape and chambering by Mike Casey.  What a craftsman...
My son Nick with his first balsa.  He did all his own templates, millwork and glue-ups.  A FINE job.
Shane Dorian with his 10'6" outer reef gun.  Shape and finished by John Carper, chambering by Mike Casey....When Shane pulls this one out, be very very afraid!!...
Koa quad set on my 9'0" BK balsa gun.  T-bands are paulonia with old growth redwood center stringer and offsets.  Mango/redwood/balsa nose and tail blocks.  John Cherry made the gorgeous fins.  Glass by Jack Reeves, chambering by Mike Casey.  MANY Mahalos to all involved in getting this board done!!
Jamie's 10'6 Gun again, with koa topped Futures.
Jamie Sterling with his 10'6" Rusty outer reef gun at the 2011-12 Eddie Aikau opening ceremony.
This was a very long but fun project.  Jamie and I had been talking about building this board for over a year.   After building the close tolerance blank I shipped it to San Diego for rough shaping.
I added  3/8" of an inch to both the deck and bottom final rocker supplied to me by Rusty.  The outline was oversized 1/2" all the way around the board.  I loaded all my tools, clamps and rack up and drove to San Diego from Colorado to chamber the board. Chris Russel at APS did a fine job of cutting the blank.  Rusty and Hoy Runnels finished the board and she glassed out at 32lbs.  Center t-band is spanish cedar, offsets are old growth redwood.  As in all my boards, every peice is re-sawn and reglued left and right of the stringer in sequence to keep the balance and weight evenly balanced.  After riding this beauty at an outer reef on Oahu, Jamie dubbed this board his "Magic Carpet".
